Call for Abstracts

The 47th International Congress for the History of Pharmacy, marking the Centennial Congress of the International Society for the History of Pharmacy, will be held in Innsbruck, Austria, from 2–5 September 2026. Under the guiding theme “Drugs and Medicine of the Mountains”, the congress will explore the deep interconnections between nature, medicine, and history in alpine regions and beyond. Particular attention will be devoted to the traditions of mountain pharmacopeia, medicinal plants, mineral-based remedies, the history of mining and alchemy, as well as the reception and legacy of Paracelsus.

We particularly encourage submissions from members of the national societies affiliated with the International Society for the History of Pharmacy. At the same time, the Scientific Committee warmly welcomes contributions from adjacent and overlapping disciplines that intersect with the history of pharmacy. This includes, but is not limited to, research in the fields of history, cultural anthropology, archaeology, botany, archaeobotany, the history of chemistry, Renaissance philosophy, the philosophy of alchemy, as well as veterinary medicine and the history of veterinary practice. Such interdisciplinary perspectives are considered essential to enriching our understanding of pharmacy’s multifaceted past.

Abstracts for oral presentations and posters should be submitted via the congress website. Submissions will undergo review by the Scientific Committee. Detailed guidelines for formatting and submission deadlines will be provided online.
